High Demand and Short Supply- What does it mean for you?

If you have been searching for a fireplace or hot tub in the past few months, you’ve probably noticed a bit of a delay in product availability. The spa section of our store is almost empty and will remain this way for the next few weeks. Unfortunately, the supply of our products has slowed way down. Read on to learn what has caused some of these shortages/delays, and what to expect if you’re looking to purchase from us.

So, you’re stuck at home. What next?

Maybe an increase in time spent at home has made you rethink your indoor and outdoor spaces. With many businesses shut down and vacations cancelled, some people are finding themselves with excess cash in their pockets and excess time on their hands. You may be searching for a way to diversify your activities in your backyard or make your home better for entertaining. You’re not alone! Outdoor furniture and supplies stores have experienced massive increases in sales since the pandemic hit. In fact, outdoor recreational items like pool and gardening items saw 360 percent year-over-year growth since April 1. Additionally, there has been an increase in desire to renovate the interior of the home. Houzz, an online home remodeling platform, reported a 58% annual increase in project leads for home professionals in June. Though the increase in business for some companies has been the diamond-in-the-rough of this pandemic, the demand in backyard toys and products to update the home has created many issues.

Demand is higher than supply

In the initial shock of the pandemic, it seemed as though the world stopped to a halt. Many workers were sent home for weeks or even months. This meant many factories were unable to produce their usual amount of products. This was problematic on its own, but a sudden hike in demand for those products meant manufacturers were extra backed-up! Customers demanded products that would not be produced for weeks. For retailers, like Accent, this meant showrooms were nearly empty and customers were purchasing products that wouldn’t physically exist for weeks. In fact, we’re experiencing a full on hot tub shortage in Spokane, and businesses all over town are struggling with a lack of inventory.

What to expect

Expect delays and shortages. This sounds like a sales pitch, but I promise, it isn’t: If you are interested in getting a spa or replacing your fireplace insert, it’s best to do it sooner, rather than later. If you wait to purchase, the item you have your eye on will most likely be sold to another customer, and more product could take weeks or even months to be replenished. Some of our spas, for example, won’t arrive until as late as April.

We understand this is frustrating, and we are working as hard as we can to bring products to you as quickly as possible. During these trying times, the last thing we’d want to do is disappoint you. If you have a question or concern about inventory, give us a call at (509)325-8800.
